Fort Calgary was built at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers. This spot marks the starting point of development for the city. From there, Calgary grew in all four directions. By 1914, over one million people had moved to the Prairies and Calgary was its hub. When oil was discovered in 1947, Calgary became its administrative center and through the 60's and 70's, its population almost doubled.

Today, more than 880,000 people enjoy the rich and fulfilled life Calgary has to offer. It is the second largest head office city in the country. The biggest advantage Calgary has to offer is that it has all the infrastructure in place for head offices, without the problems of a city that has grown too big. With the mountains at our doorstep, we have endless opportunities to hike, bike, enjoy one of five premier ski areas or just the majesty the mountains bring. You will notice, that Calgarians often say, "Aren't the mountains beautiful today?"
